TEEN BEGS FOR JAIL TO “SORT HIS HEAD OUT”
Wednesday, 17th February 2010

A teenage thief who “scrambled” his brains by using cannabis has pleaded with a judge to lock him up.  The 17 year old boy who had 37 prior convictions, asked Judge Clare Leonard to jail him for three months at the Dublin Childrens Court.  During the case, the judge agreed with the boy that cannabis was not what he described as a “major drug” but said the teens brain was “scrambled” by using it and that was one of the side effects.  The boy claimed he needed three months to “sort my head out”.  He pleaded guilty to stealing a laptop computer worth €500 from Tesco Clearwater Branch in Finglas in Dublin, on May 9 last year.
Immediately he said “bang me up for three months, that will sort my head out”  The judge queried whether the teen was in a fit enough condition for his case and said that he had a drug problem, specifically  a history of cannabis use.  The boy was remanded in custody.
